HIPAA Notices of Privacy Practices
HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act and is a federally mandated law signed in 1996. The HIPAA privacy
rule is one of seven sets of rules being issued to implement HIPAA.
The Privacy Rule, sets standards for how protected health information
should be controlled by setting forth what uses and disclosures
are authorized or required and what rights patients have with respect
to their health information. Only health plan, health care clearinghouses,
health care providers and other entities that exchange health information
are responsible for complying with the HIPAA regulations. The Notice
of Privacy Practices describes what the County's policies are in
regards to use, disclosure, and protecting your information in regards
to HIPAA
